Autocross - in Decatur

Press Release: The Champaign County Sports Car Club (CCSCC) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Decatur Park District to bring autocross back to Decatur after nearly 20 years.

Beginning in 2012, CCSCC will hold several weekend events at the Decatur Airport. The events will normally be held at the UPS Flight Facility parking and taxi ramps. CCSCC will hold its inaugural event this year on October 29th and 30^th. This will allow CCSCC to get a feel for the facility and give Decatur area residents a chance to participate or simply witness the excitement as a spectator in their own backyard before the season is in full swing next year.

Autocross is a timed competition which tests ones driving skills. It features a course outlined with traffic cones. A typical course includes features such as slaloms, gates, sweepers, curves, Chicago boxes, and offsets. Participants drive their vehicles through the course to achieve the quickest time he or she can. Classes for most cars are available.

Spectators may enter at no cost, but must sign a waiver. Driver participation fees range from $10.00 to $30.00 per day, depending on membership or student status and multi-day participation. SCCA membership is accepted.

Registration begins on site at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 9:30 a.m. A drivers meeting is held at 10:00 a.m. and the first car is off at 10:30 a.m. An award ceremony follows each event for the top drivers of the day.
